Their campaigns are thwarted, the films are box office hits: Dakota and Elle Fanning conquer the big screen.
Dakota and Elle Fanning. Blonde, pretty and blessed with more talent than lifeguard David Hasselhoff ever had. The 17-year-old Dakota has been in front of the camera for a decade, working with big names such as Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, Robert De Niro and Steven Spielberg. “She is the reincarnation of Bette Davis,” enthuses co-actor Kris Kristofferson. Dakota is no Disney mouse like Lindsay Lohan, no Culkin flash in the pan – she made the leap from child star to professional actor a long time ago, she has shed the girl-next-door image: for “The Runaways” (2010) she throws on suspenders, jiggles her breasts and kisses Kristen Stewart with relish. Marc Jacobs has appointed her as his muse. The hot campaign for the fragrance “Oh! Lola” – Dakota in a skimpy dress, the bottle between her legs – was too provocative for the British, reminding them of child pornography, which is why a printing ban was imposed. Dakota takes a pragmatic view: “It’s just acting”. Her younger sister Elle had a similar experience when Juergen Teller photographed the 13-year-old for Marc by Marc Jacobs. Having started her career as Dakota’s Mini-Me, Elle has now played alongside Brad Pitt twice, in “Babel” (2006) and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” (2008). And Sofia Coppola is delighted with her. So things could get tight on the red carpet soon. But you won’t find any catfights with the Fanning Sisters: “We spend every free minute together”.
