Shortcuts Beauty May 2019

“I can’t tell you what a pleasure it is to just put my hair under a wig cap and slap on a wig that’s already done. It’s dress up for your hair!” Felicity Huffman

California dreamin’

Dusty desert, burning sun. A cactus is growing somewhere, and adventure is in the air. While we browse through our photo album at home, we sniff Louis Vuitton’s new perfume “Cactus Garden”. It captures what you can’t take home from a vacation in California: the feeling of freedom, warmth on your skin, excitement and thrills. In the bottle designed by artist Alex Israel, maté, lemongrass and bergamot come together – not just a meeting, but a road trip through the Californian nowhere. Wanderlust has rarely smelled better. Louis Vuitton, “Cactus Garden”, 100 ml, approx. 260.-

Green thumb

Gardening is hard. That’s why we are tempted to fall back on ready-made flower wreaths – or on the florist we trust. And when you weave them into a wreath and tie it on your head, you feel at least as proud as a mother whose child has just achieved top marks at school. Anyone who gets a migraine at the mere thought of fresh soil and pricked fingers can handle artificial flowers or pinch daisies plucked from the neighbor’s garden behind their ear.

Zero waste

We produce waste. Morning to evening, every day. It’s high time to not only do away with aluminum foil and plastic bags, but also to continue right away in the beauty cabinet – namely with the cotton pads. Instead of throwing away the round white ones straight away after each use, we now prefer to use sustainable pads. The Cologne-based company Bambusliebe produces its pads in Germany and from bamboo. The reason is simple: bamboo grows back quickly, is antibacterial, requires neither pesticides nor an irrigation system when grown and also absorbs up to five times more moisture than other cellulose materials. The items, which come in a bag of seven at Bambusliebe, are said to last up to ten years. The bamboo pads also remove make-up gently and quickly, even without additional lotion. Bamboo love, 7 washable make-up remover pads, approx. 28.- (www.bambusliebe.de)

Barbie

Pink is red’s little sister. No less loud, no less provocative, but somewhat fresher and younger than the related classic. This color does not discriminate against , looks good on both thick and thin lips and brings everyone out of the gray corner. It does not transform, it emphasizes. Pink is for spring, for days under the sun, when your heart is overflowing with joy and emotion and you want to embrace the world. Such days are rare enough, so keep at it.

Last but not least

We take up the cudgels. And for the ones that are always at the back of the shelf, the Jack Blacks among beauty products, the best friends that only become really interesting at second glance: deodorants. Unsexy? We ask you! After all, they are what keep us smelling fresh – on a date as well as during a hundred-meter sprint. That’s why this month we’re giving our hearts to Dr. Hauschka’s Sage Mint Deodorant Milk, which is completely free of harmful aluminum, synthetic fragrances, dyes, preservatives, mineral oil and silicone. Dr. Hauschka, “Sage Mint Deodorant Milk”, approx. 50 ml, approx. 13.-

Bird of paradise

Backstage at a fashion show. Make-up is being applied and paint is being brushed, a thousand hands are busy, everyone is scurrying around, chaos ensues. Finding her own material in this confusion as a make-up artist gave Miriam Jacks the idea for her own brushes. There are now 18 different ones, one for each powder and each area of application. The special feature: The handles of JACKS Beauty Line are hand-painted, the bristles are purely synthetic. No animal has left its hair behind, but Miriam and her team spend hours giving their brushes an individual look. And this knowledge makes applying make-up at home even more fun. JACKS Beauty Line, brushes from approx. 15.- (www.jacks-beautyline.com or in Switzerland via www.greenlane.ch)
