Shhhh!
The Japanese have their onsen, the Finns their sauna. From Roman baths to Turkish hammams, there are numerous places where we can relax and unwind. Gestalten brings together the world’s greatest wellness temples in his new book “Be Well”. The places where we voluntarily leave our smartphones in the locker. Places where we wipe even the heaviest worry off our shoulders like a feather, and places where we simply let go. Gestalten & Kari Molvar, “Be Well”, ca 40.
Small Friends
There are waiting lists for Hermès bags. To tide us over until we invest our hard-earned savings in a Kelly or Birkin, Hermès now also offers lipsticks. 24 shades, ten of them matt, 14 silky glossy. The packaging will satisfy anyone who immediately thinks of the familiar Hermès boxes when they hear the name, as the new beauty favorites are also in orange boxes. The collection includes brushes, liner, balm and even a lipstick case which, in contrast to the original Birkin, seems almost affordable at 480. Hermès Beauty, “Rouge Hermès”, lipstick, approx. 67.- (Refill, approx. 44.-), www.hermes.com
Emergency aid
Virus panic here, uncertain weather forecast there. Constantly washing your hands and alternating between gloves and bare paws puts a strain on the skin. The result: cracked fingers. Time to pamper our hands with Weleda’s “Sea Buckthorn Hand Cream”, which smells so beautifully of the sun and whose purely natural formula with vitamin E and carotenoids regenerates and nourishes. Weleda, “Sea buckthorn hand cream”, 50 ml, approx. 7.-
Heavy Stuff
Not everything spills over from the nineties. Fortunately… It will be years before thinly plucked eyebrows come back into fashion. Luisa Beccaria focuses on naturalness for her models: the brows have to be bushy and wild. Those whose hairs are still recovering from the shock of the 90s use a strengthening serum. Then it’s simply a case of combing the brows into shape and gently filling them in with powder or pencil. We say gently! Painted beams are just as out of place on our face as thinly plucked lines. 1 Chanel, “La Palette Sourcils”, approx. 66.- 2 4Ever Young, eyelash serum “Lash & Brow Wonder”, approx. 39.- 3 Sephora, Brow Gel Cream in “3 Dark”, approx. 15.-
Milky Way
Not a story of the sweet housewife whisking up creams in the kitchen at home. Milk Makeup is the product of a New York creative office and the result of strenuous brainstorming. The concept works: Only good things end up in colorful jars; creams, foundations, eye shadows or blushes for which no animal had to shed tears. However, the Tu-Gutes all-round package goes beyond the purely vegan and paraben-free content. Milk Makeup is taking up the cudgels for individual looks, launching 36 different foundation colors and encouraging beauty junkies to do their very own thing via social media. And because the latter only works on nourished skin, Milk Makeup is now launching a cleanser and moisturizer with fig milk and shea butter (“Vegan Milk Cleanser”, 118 ml, approx. 38.-, “Vegan Milk Moisturizer”, 48 ml, approx. 38.-).
Roundabout
Sometimes we make it easy for ourselves. We don’t like fiddling with hair clips anyway, and we definitely don’t have the patience for the complicated laying hairstyle. So let’s take a look at Proenza Schouler to see how cool ponytails work this season: set low at the nape of the neck and fastened with a fine leather band instead of a simple rubber band. Of course, the hair length has to be right for the effect to work. First prepare the hair with a little powder, dry shampoo or another texturizer to prevent the ribbon from slipping. Cheating is allowed: fix the ponytail with a thin elastic first before wrapping the lengths. Finish with a little hair oil to add shine to the back of the head and nourish the ends.
