Contouring, blue eyeshadow, pink lips: This summer, our faces are going all out. Yves Saint Laurent National Make-up Artist Abdel Zouitina explains to us how to implement the trends correctly and which make-up won’t go flat even at 35 degrees.
FACES: Which make-up trends will we not be able to avoid this summer?
Abdel Zouitina: This season, nothing beats natural, fresh and feminine colors. Fresh lips and a flawless complexion are in demand, while highlighters also provide a sunny glow. To achieve this, Yves Saint Laurent launches “Les Sahariennes”, the first tinted blur product.
FACES: What make-up innovations do we need to know about?
AZ: In “Volupté Tint-in-Oil” by Yves Saint Laurent, the suppleness of an oil and the color intensity of a lipstick are combined for the first time. The lips are moisturized and the natural lip color comes into its own: the result is lips to die for!
FACES: What is the best make-up to wear on the beach?
AZ: The perfect beach make-up consists of a lightly tanned base and a flawless complexion. As if you had just returned from your summer vacation. Apply “Les Sahariennes” as a base or over your BB or CC cream enriched with sun protection factor. Use the “Touche Eclat” to brighten the areas around the eyes, nose, lips and upper cheekbones. “Vernis à Lèvres Pop Water” moisturizes your lips for a full ten hours.
FACES: Blur and Primer… What exactly do these products do, how do you use them and why do you need them at all?
AZ: Blur is the very latest trend and currently a huge hype in the beauty world. It contains small particles that optimally reflect light, conceal fine lines and pores and help your skin look even and beautiful. A kind of filter for your face. Try the new products from Yves Saint Laurent, the “Touche Eclat Blur Primer” and the “Touche Eclat Blur Perfector”. Apply one or two pumps of the “Blur Primer” either on its own or before the foundation – using your fingertips or a foundation brush. The super-light, non-greasy texture is velvety soft and blends beautifully with the skin, giving the complexion a multi-dimensional glow thanks to golden pigments. The “Blur Perfector” additionally mattifies the complexion and gives it an exceptionally radiant glow.
FACES: Pink is the lip color of the summer. How suitable is such a lipstick for everyday use in high temperatures and high humidity?
AZ: There’s no denying the power of pink: it’s the quintessential summer color and goes with so many skin tones. Pink is dramatic, sexy and great fun. Here, too, I recommend using “Vernis à Lèvres Pop Water” as an alternative to classic lipstick, as it moisturizes the lips and keeps the color radiant and glowing all day long.
FACES: Contouring is a big topic this season. How do I proceed correctly?
AZ: Contouring is all about optimally emphasizing the structure of the face – it’s not that easy, but with the right tips it can be done even by amateurs. First apply your foundation, then the “Touche Eclat” wherever the sun normally falls on your face – it is best to work it in and blend it out with your fingers. Start at the bridge of the nose, the forehead and under the highest point of your brow. Make a kissing mouth and apply bronzing powder to the hollow you have created with a blush brush. Brush diagonally towards the ear and blend everything in. Finally, apply a little blush to the apple cheeks to complete the look.
FACES: Marc Jacobs sent his models onto the catwalk without make-up for his show. Is this the end of make-up?
AZ: I don’t think so. I can’t imagine women no longer wearing make-up because of this. Make-up will always make women feel beautiful, feminine, self-confident, sensual, modern, chic, rocking and independent.
It’s clear: women love make-up and are almost addicted to it. I have no doubt about that.
