Anna Bauer wants to give the big names of the fashion scene a face. The New York-based German photographer has taken a look behind the glamorous façade of the fashion world and captured her view in an illustrated book.
Her Polaroid camera and a face from the fashion business is all Anna Bauer needs to take a good photo in the chaotic backstage area. The German-born photographer moved to New York in 2002 to study photography at the School of Visual Arts – with success. She now works for magazines such as “Interview” and “W“. For four years, she accompanied stylists, models and designers at the international fashion weeks in New York, Paris, London and Milan and pressed the shutter of her Polaroid camera at just the right moment. The result: a kind of glamorous yearbook consisting of unembellished black and white photographs. These include Kate Moss backstage at Vivienne Westwood in London, Carine Roitfeld after a show in Paris and Paul McCartney with designer daughter Stella. Anna Bauer had all the big names in front of her lens. Around 250 of the best photographs have now been published in her first photo book “Anna Bauer Backstage”. “I thought it would be great to see the people, the ones we read about all the time – to put a face to the names.”
The book “Anna Bauer Backstage” is available from Angelika Books for approx. CHF 120.
