This winter we’re going off the beaten track: instead of casually making our tracks in the snow in our own Alps, we’re heading off to Tyrol, more precisely to the picturesque Stubai Valley. Less than 20 minutes from Innsbruck, in Neustift, is the Spa Hotel Jagdhof. The impressive XXL chalet is framed by a beautiful panorama of the Alps and glaciers, and it quickly becomes clear why there are five stars lined up along the wooden façade: The extensive spa area has so much to offer that we would happily spend a few months relaxing here, and although the large bed in the luxuriously rustic room is soft and cozy, we look forward to the breakfast buffet even more. Once the batteries are recharged, we take the shuttle to the Stubai Glacier, where our legs get to feel what “the largest glacier ski area in Austria” means. After a strenuous day on the slopes, there’s nothing better than spending a few carefree hours outside in the whirlpool, with a relaxing massage or with a so-called sports and vitality pack. And suddenly your stomach starts growling: the starred cuisine and the hotel’s own wine cellar can be described in one word: delicious – every evening a new, multi-course menu made from the best regional ingredients. Well-being is the magic word: no matter what or how much you do during the day in the region (the offer is huge and the reception fulfills every wish), at the Jagdhof you can relax, enjoy and recharge your batteries. We’ll be back in summer, then with hiking boots instead of skis in our luggage. Maybe even sooner, if we can’t hold out that long.
