Everything is a little sweeter in Vienna, the dialect as well as the delicacies. Whether Mozartkugel or Sachertorte, feasting is a top priority in Austria’s capital. Here, modernity meets tradition and cosmopolitan aspirations meet petit bourgeois reality, and yet – or perhaps precisely because of this – you always feel at home here. With its amiable nature, the former imperial city crowns itself and reveals what cold cities so often lack: charm. Wolfgang Becker, singer of the band diver, has always lived in Vienna and has no plans to leave. Just because of the sausage stands.

Party in Vienna

Vienna is not Mallorca, but it certainly knows how to party. The subway arches under the U6 are particularly busy in the evening. In the

fans of cultivated indie get their money’s worth.

Vienna’s neighborhood
Viennese scene life is limited to the districts within the Gürtel. The exception is the district of Meidling, which is slowly coming to life.

Despite the numerous parks in the middle of the city, young Viennese people flock to the huge inner courtyard of the Museumsquartier when the sun is shining. With a bit of luck, you can get hold of an Enzi (a now iconic designer lounger) or a spot by the small pond.
MUST DO
© pa picture alliance
If you want to leave the Prater and the Naschmarkt behind you, get on the streetcar and head out into the countryside. Start your walk through the Viennese vineyards at the terminus of streetcar line D, through the Beethovengang along the Schreiberbach. A must is a visit to the sausage stands on every street corner (tip: the Klasse Hasse on Lerchenfelder Straße), preferably late at night. Then there’s nothing better than a Käsekrainer with bread and sweet mustard.
