Just an actress in “Stranger Things”, already a designer for Pandora: Millie Bobby Brown talks about her jewelry collection Pandora Me.
When the last child star has just turned 18, Hollywood is guaranteed to pull a new wunderkind out of its hat. This is what happened with Millie Bobby Brown, the English girl who brings Netflix dream ratings for “Stranger Things”. The exceptional talent is just 16 when the jewelry brand Pandora comes knocking on her door. On 2. July sees the launch of the Pandora Me collection, co-designed by Millie, which packs summer into bracelets, necklaces and charms. But what inspired the youngest UNICEF Special Ambassador to create her designs, how does she wear her jewelry and what makes her heart beat faster?
FACES: What mood did you want to create using your mood board for the Pandora Me collection?
Millie Bobby Brown: I wanted to capture the fun and colors of summer and the beauty of the ocean. It was immediately clear that I would choose some of my favorite animals. I love the stories they tell together with the different colors when you combine them over and over again.
F: You have chosen four symbols for the charms. Why did you choose pineapple, flamingo, waves and the starfish?
MBB: I love pineapples and the color yellow. It makes me happy and reminds me of summer. I also like the taste of pineapple in my smoothies. My favorite pink something is the flamingo. These birds are actually born blue and only change color during their lifetime due to their diet! Waves symbolize the sea and everything that comes with it: power, rhythm, fascination. The starfish fits in so wonderfully because it is simply so beautiful and such an important part of the oceanic ecosystem.
F: The turtle has made it onto an earring. What significance does this have for you?
MBB: Turtles are such beautiful and gentle creatures. When I’m at the beach, I always watch them swim. For me, they represent going with the flow of life and taking time to capture the beauty around you.
F: What are your favorite colors from the Pandora Me collection?
MBB: I love the color of the sun and pineapple. Yellow always reminds me of summer and happiness. But I also really like pink, the color of the flamingo.
F: How do you wear the Pandora Me bracelets and necklaces?
MBB: I love the contrast between the chunky necklaces and bracelets and the cute, tiny charms. Everyone can put together their own individual piece of jewelry. I really like combining different bracelets with each other every time, so that a different look is created every time.
F: The bracelets and necklaces are both tomboyish and feminine. Are you looking for this combination in your own wardrobe?
MBB: I create this mix because I don’t see it as necessary to choose one or the other. As modern women, we can be anything we want without having to limit ourselves.
F: What makes jewelry so special?
MBB: Jewelry is the ultimate form of expressing your personality. It changes every outfit and tells a very personal story about the wearer. I can tell who you are just by looking at your jewelry.
F: When does your heart beat faster?
MBB: Music makes my heart beat like crazy. At the moment I’m constantly listening to “Islands in the Stream”.
F: Pandora has just announced that it is pursuing the goal of becoming a carbon-neutral company in the future. How important is it to you that your partners pursue such goals?
MBB: I have been committed to the environment for a long time and I welcome it when others do the same. We need to make sure that this is our top priority, which is why I only want to work with companies that are actively involved in making our world a better place.
F: How do you help take care of the environment and why is it so important in your eyes?
MBB: We have to take care of our planet, because if we don’t, there won’t be any more beautiful and magical sea creatures or wonderful days under the sun. All that will disappear. We have no choice but to take care of our planet, because we have neither another home nor a plan B.
The various sterling silver charms can be worn on a bracelet, pin, necklace or creole and are available as part of the Pandora Me collection from the 2nd quarter. July 2020 in all Pandora stores and online available.
