Munich is something between a cosmopolitan city and a small village. Others describe the capital of Bavaria as the “northernmost city in Italy”, and there are good reasons for this: the joie de vivre of the inhabitants, the grand gestures and the wealth of culinary discoveries. Alexandra Krüsi has seen how the city has dusted off its display and filled it with various delicacies. The creative districts, the charm and the big heart of the people of Munich keep the Swiss woman in this place, which is adorned by its proximity to nature like a cherry on an ice cream sundae. Speaking of which, Alexandra knows the best place for that too, read on.

The hippest rooftop bar in the city is also one of the reasons why we should stay at the HIT Haus im Tal . The stylish interior and the feeling of being at home from the very first second are numbers two and three. Just as cozy: the accommodation from Visionapartments in the city center.

Restaurants in Munich
First we have breakfast at Schneewittchen am Glockenbach , then we look for small gifts and cool home accessories. A quick espresso? Then off to Man vs. Machine, which also serves the best French rolls in Munich, or to Morso, where you can listen to Italian music while you wait. The schnitzel at Schumann’s Tagesbar is worth the long wait for a table, while those with less patience can get a potato to go from the guys at Auf die Hand on the Viktualienmarkt. Ice cream fans will be happy at Gelato Jessas by Ballabeni and aperitivo lovers at the Bravo Bar or the Golden Bar in the Haus der Kunst. Fancy dinner? There is the agony of choice between the French Chez Fritz (moules et frites like in Paris, oh what, better!), Supernova (Italian classics and gluten-free pizza), the taverna Melina Merkouri (Greek meze and a Uozo or two on the house) or Rootine, although only shortly before opening already the hype place with the longest waiting list.

Shopping in Munich
Away from the main street, into the quarter: here you will find Saskia Diez ‘s boutique with jewelry made from recycled gold and silver, the Nora Khereddine concept store and Soda BOOKS, where print magazines are held high. We store for cool glasses at Leidmann Eyewear, the best bread at hipster baker Julius Brantner in the university district, plant-based cosmetics at NKM Naturkosmetik and design and interior pieces at Landpartie or Room to dream. Organic treatments are available at Beautery, the city’s most stylish cosmetics studio, Scandi fashion at Arket and there’s plenty to see at Schwittenberg, a loft-like concept store in the Luitpoldblock.

Quarters in Munich
Weather and coronavirus permitting, Munich is a wonderful place for a stroll. For example in the Hofgarten, on the Isar or around the Angel of peace. Also nice: cruising through the English Garden on a sunny day or discovering all the little stores around Gärtnerplatz.
Must do in Munich
Munich can be explored by bike. The first stop for weekend shopping is Eataly and the Viktualienmarkt, before treating yourself to an Aperol Sauer at Schumann’s Tagesbar . Those who are still able to afterwards meet up at the Eisbach surf wave and prove their skills.
