The Hype September 2022 – Travel

“Why don’t they make the whole plane out of that black box stuff?”

Steven Wright

Darling

Inferior

Grains of sand are like mosquitoes: totally unnecessary! At least at a picnic on the beach. The Voited beach blanket is just as much a part of the picnic standard as snacks and drinks so that we don’t spend days shaking grains out of our clothes later. Quick-drying microfleece on the upper side ensures dry bottoms, waterproof fabric on the underside for spontaneous sitting on meadows, beaches or forest floors. What’s more, thanks to practical loops, the item can be attached to the ground at any corner and is therefore equipped to withstand even the windiest gusts.

Voited, “Picnic and Beach Blanket”, ca. 117(voited.eu)

Collaboration

The Camp

Fancy camping? Of course! However, we are not only looking forward to the next adventure, but also the opportunity to unpack the new outdoor furniture from the streetwear label RVCA with the Korean company Helinox. Helinox provides functionality, RVCA cool design, with the latter coming from the pens of artists Kelsey Brookes and Ben Horton. The result is two sets of table, chair and lounger that provide comfort even in the wildest wilderness. Helinox X RVCA, “Table One Hard Top”, approx. 180, “Chair One”, approx. 150, “High Cot One”, approx. 530(helinox.eu and rvca.com)

Hot piece, cool print!

Nice to have

Off we go

Nothing beats Toto’s “Africa” or Lenny Kravitz’s “Fly Away” when we’re heading straight for the horizon. Always at our side: the new portable speaker “Roam” from Sonos. Available in the three colors Olive, Wave and Sunset, the part plays its sound even when bobbing in the ocean or riding a quad bike in the dusty nowhere. One battery charge provides ten hours of sound, via WLAN and Bluetooth and also via over 100 streaming providers. Sonos, Roam in “Olive”, “Wave” and “Sunset”, approx. 219(sonos.com)

Nice to know

Sunshine Reggae

It’s neither the tapas nor the sherry that lure us to Spain – at least not only. According to the travel search engine Holidu, it is the hours of sunshine that catapult six Spanish cities into the top ten sunniest places in Europe. Alicante leads the podium with 349 sun-filled hours per month, ahead of Catania in Italy with 347 and Murcia, also on the Spanish mainland, with 346. Here you will find the sunniest cities in Europe.

We love

Counsellor

Ghana is not a run-of-the-mill destination. This is one of the reasons why we don’t rely on ordinary travel guides. A second is the beautiful project by Zurich designer Kathrin Eckhardt, who has gotten to know the African country better than any tourist in Duracell mode over the past seven years thanks to her own label. Thanks to her interactive travel guide – which also leaves nothing to be desired in terms of design – we get to know Ghana in a very personal way: Kathrin’s favorite restaurants, the prettiest beaches and the friendliest traders, all digitally packaged, with addresses and ready to rumble! Kathrin Eckhardt, “Travel Guide Ghana”, ca. 20(kathrineckhardt.com)

Places

Into the woods

All-inclusive buffet, entertainment à go go and room service 24/7. For some it is paradise, for others the epitome of mass tourism. The latter prefer to spend their days off in one of Nutchel’s wooden cabins in Alsace, which have about as much in common with standardized hotel rooms as a campervan has with a Lamborghini. This is where you retreat to when your pulse is dancing rock’n’roll again and your head switches to conveyor belt. The so-called Cosy Cabins are scattered across seven hectares of forest and give you that Robinson Crusoe feeling with their interiors made from natural materials – without the impossibility of returning to civilization, of course. There are six different cabins for up to six people in the Alsace Forest Village L’Alsace – with the option of a hot tub or roof terrace. Until the first snow arrives, you can sit around the campfire here, later you can retreat inside in front of your own fireplace and get what you’ve been missing for so long: peace and quiet. Nutchel, from approx. 110 per night in a Cosy Cabin at Forest Village L’Alsace, Route de Salm 724, 67420 Plaine, France, nutchel.de

Nutchel accommodation is the epitome of cosiness.
