On 21. December 2023 at the Hotel Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz for the 25th anniversary. Very special Christmas trees will go under the hammer for the second time. Gucci, Dior and Co. supplied the fir trees, which were auctioned off for a good cause.
They are pretty, they are unique and they are more expensive than the mightiest Nordmann fir: the Christmas trees that go under the hammer every year for a good cause at Hotel Badrutt’s Palace in St. Moritz. A fan put 66,000 Swiss francs on the table for the copy by star photographer David Yarrow. Bucherer, Cartier, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Gucci and Gübelin also supplied their specimens, all of which are actually more art than tree. However, where men over 1 meter 80 score on singles exchanges, that’s the end of the line for the trees: Taller is not an option. If you have the necessary small change, you can decorate your living room not only with a unique piece that will make any run-of-the-mill Christmas tree lose its needles with envy, but also with an experience package that, depending on the fir tree, can catapult you to the front row of a fashion show.
3.7 million francs for a good cause
St. Moritz scores points not only with its mountains, grand hotels and elegant shopping street, but also with its big heart. On 21. December 2023, the Christmas Auction Tree auction, which is entering its 25th season this year, collected a total of round, 351,900 francs, which will benefit local charities. In 2023, the St. Moritz Ski School for the Blind, the Upper Engadine Childcare Foundation KIBE, the Avegnir advice center for acute and palliative illness situations and the Movimento association for the care of people with disabilities in Samedan can look forward to a tidy sum. Over the past 25 years, the unique Christmas trees have raised over 3.7 million francs – a sum that makes the organizers at least as proud as Santa after delivering his presents.
