For Spring-Summer 2027, Satoshi Kondo is less interested in the body or the fabric than in the tension-filled space between them. Titled “Figure of Ma,” the collection explores the Japanese concept of ma —the space between things—yet here, that space never feels empty. It is full of life, defined by air, movement, and moments of tension. The fabric draws close to the body, then pulls away again, clings to it, and then slips away once more.
There is beauty in this tension. Nothing seems rigid. The clothing billows, collapses, drifts, and changes in response to the body, with every movement altering the relationship between the fabric and the wearer.
The most radical expression of this is Cocoon Body, developed in collaboration with Wacoal Corp. Hand-draped shapes are transformed—using 3D scanning and robot-assisted shaping—into sheer top pieces that preserve the fabric’s folds and contours on the body—a concept the brand refers to as “memory of wearing.”
The same sense of closeness and distance runs through *Billow* and *Ballooning*. Lightweight fabric traps air and pulls away from the figure, only to fall back onto it again. Ripstop nylon coats billow out behind the body before collapsing back in; transparent, voluminous pieces float rather than clinging to the body.

The Camper collaboration continues to explore the interplay of transformation and memory, from the asymmetrical Peu Lift to the Peu Formula, which was shaped after the contours of a worn shoe.

Issey Miyake finds poetry in the tension between closeness and distance—in the space that allows the body and fabric to move together without becoming one.
