Sézane: The Next Chapter in a Success Story

The Sézane Pop-Up The location at 117 Rue du Bac in Paris marks the beginning of a new creative chapter for the French fashion house. Just a short walk from the historic Le Bon Marché, this 350-square-meter space—the legendary former home of The Conran Shop—will serve as the brand’s seasonal hub for the next five months. Backed by a completely revamped visual identity, a redesigned logo, and a current focus on minimalist capsule collections, this temporary location is far more than just a routine addition to the label’s permanent boutiques. It embodies Sézane’s evolution, captures a distinct sensibility, and brings together fashion, art, literature, and hospitality under one roof.

Inside, founder and creative director Morgane Sézalory’s vision of an intimate, culturally rich retreat comes to life through thoughtful interior design—understated rather than superficially decorative. Polished wooden cabinets and curved, lacquered counters stand alongside sculptural objects, fresh floral arrangements, and a spectacular floor-to-ceiling “sweater library,” where the signature knitwear is arranged in vibrant ribbons of color. The space achieves what is rarely accomplished in retail: it exudes elegance and luxury while remaining completely free of any sense of pretension.

Beyond fashion, the boutique highlights a facet of Morgane’s creative ethos that many may not be familiar with: her quiet, long-standing commitment to independent creators. This location is the perfect physical embodiment of that ethos, centered on her longstanding relationship with the Ghanaian-British photography pioneer James Barnor stands. Their creative collaboration dates back to 2014, when Barnor was the first artist in the original L’Appartement exhibited by Sézane. More than a decade later, his historic body of work is making a triumphant comeback. The 19th-century building itself serves as a setting for the art. Its historic steel façade, reminiscent of Gustave Eiffel’s industrial poetry, provides a striking backdrop for Barnor’s body of work: seven monumental black-and-white photographs dominate the exterior, while 23 historical works continue the narrative inside. Presented in collaboration with Clémentine de la Féronnière, the exhibition features an immersive installation curated by publisher and art center director Anna-Alix Koffi.

This curatorial instinct shapes the entire layout and integrates renowned independent institutions into the ecosystem as full-fledged creative partners. Galignani – the legendary Parisian bookstore, which was founded in 1801 and is the oldest English-language bookstore on the European continent, has curated a sophisticated literary niche dedicated to fashion, the visual arts, and design. At the same time, the independent Ten Belles, a Parisian coffee institution set up their own fragrant corner. Rather than watered-down corporate imitations, these are authentic collaborations, and the commercial cycle comes full circle with a clear conscience: All proceeds from the literary selections are donated through Sézane’s philanthropic program, Demain, to the organization “Bibliothèques Sans Frontières.”

Yet fashion remains the central focus. The garments presented on Rue du Bac represent the culmination of 24 months during which the classic Sézane aesthetic was reimagined and expanded. Morgane describes this design evolution as “the cherry on the cake” —an additional, refined layer added to a wardrobe whose foundation remains firmly intact. About 95 percent of what Sézane has always done remains unchanged. This means that the essentials, the romantic lace, the signature prints, and the affordable pricing won’t go away.

What has changed is the selection. The collection has been streamlined and reimagined to introduce a smaller, more trend-setting range alongside the familiar hallmarks. The result is flowing, architectural silhouettes, more striking cuts, and finer fabrics with a stronger structural presence, balanced by a remarkable new range of fine leather goods. This chapter marks not an abrupt departure, but a refined expansion of an already confident design vocabulary.

The Cherry on Top

The immersive experience doesn’t end at the threshold of the main boutique; it extends right out onto the street. At 122 Rue du Bac, another location has opened, showcasing the brand’s expanding lifestyle universe. Here, in addition to the “Petit Sézane” children’s collection, you’ll also discover the men’s fashion line “Octobre Éditions.” Particularly noteworthy is that this space serves as the physical home for “Les Composantes”—the brand’s line dedicated to interior design and French art de vivre dedicates. This brings the label full circle in a beautiful way, because “Les Composantes” was the name of the online vintage collection that Morgane had founded back in 2008—long before Sézane was even launched.

Considering that Sézane began as a pioneer of the “digital-first” approach and has systematically added new essentials to its shared wardrobe each season, every step has been a logical evolution. To interpret this new chapter as a clean slate would be to misunderstand the history of Sézane’s origins. Books are written chronologically: Turning the page adds to the story without erasing the previous chapters. Sézane’s past is secure; this next chapter is simply a natural continuation for a brand whose remarkable growth is proof of how important it is to remain consistent while continuing to evolve.

About Sézane Demain

Demain was founded by Morgane Sézalory and is Sézane’s philanthropic program, which promotes equal opportunity and supports children’s aid projects worldwide. At the register, shoppers are invited to round up their purchase amount to the nearest euro, turning a few cents in digital change into collective support. One hundred percent of these rounded-up donations go to local projects, including “Bibliothèques Sans Frontières” (Libraries Without Borders), which helps provide books, learning spaces, and educational materials to children and communities in need.
